I.RI.DE

I.RI.DE - Inclusion, Respect, (Self)Determination is a project promoted by Arcigay Varese to prevent and counter violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, promoting the well-being, mental health and social inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in the territory of the province of Varese.

Goals

  • Improving the psychological well-being and mental health of LGBTQIA+ people
  • Reduce social isolation and strengthen a sense of community
  • Create a stable and collaborative territorial network of support
  • Promoting inclusive awareness and culture in the general population

Main activities

  • Welcome and support: a free and safe listening and guidance service, accessible via phone, e-mail, social or in-person.
  • Psychological support and counseling: free individual support pathways for LGBTQIA+ people in distress or fragility.
  • Empowerment groups: monthly meeting and self-help spaces for trans people and LGBTQIA+ youth.
  • Rainbow Network: mapping and consolidation of public and private entities for support and referral of discrimination cases.
  • Awareness campaigns: communication, public events and participation in anniversaries to promote inclusion and respect.

Background

The project was created in response to a fragmented and often unwelcoming territorial context for LGBTQIA+ people. In particular, the province of Varese has a high territorial dispersion, low institutional adherence to LGBTQIA+ rights, and critical issues related to social isolation, bullying, health access, and discrimination. I.RI.DE aims to respond to these needs with an integrated and community-based approach.

  • Mapping and activation of the "Rainbow Network" with more than 30 subjects
  • A public awareness campaign and 3 events on the ground
