Arcigay Varese is engaged in ongoing advocacy at the local and regional levels to promote inclusive laws, policies and practices. We believe in social and cultural change that also comes through confrontation with institutions, civic participation and active advocacy for rights.
What we mean by advocacy
For us, advocacy means building dialogue with governments, schools, businesses, public agencies and other social actors to:
- 🧑⚖️ Promoting more inclusive regulations
- 📢 Bringing the voice of the LGBTQIA+ community to institutional venues.
- 📊 Offer data, testimonies and concrete proposals.
- 🤝 Participate in working tables, observatories, calls and co-design pathways.
Concrete actions
- ✍️ Open letters and communiqués to raise public and institutional awareness of pressing issues
- 🏛️ Meetings with municipal and regional governments to improve regulations, forms and local policies
- 📚 Campaigns in support of affective and sex education in schools and against cultural censorship.
- ⚖️ Active defense against discriminatory measures and public stances on topical issues
Civic participation
We participate in demonstrations, sit-ins, and civic initiatives to defend the rights of LGBTQIA+ people and oppose all forms of hatred, censorship, or inequality. We believe in active citizenship that involves all people, at every stage of life.
